We're closing the doors for now...

Firstly, we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last nine tricky months, it’s been lovely to see you getting involved online where you can. We are sure that this won’t come as too much of a surprise to anyone in light of the weird year we’re enduring, but we have made the decision to down tools for now at ABC Salsa HQ.

Just hold back the tears for a minute or two and let us explain…

Ever a pair of optimists, we’re hopeful that Boris will release us all from the current restrictions on 2nd December to allow everyone some much needed time with friends and loved ones over the festive period. And, with the run up to Christmas right around the corner we assume, like us, many of you intend to make to most of the few weekends left before Santa arrives.

And on that note, it’s also worth mentioning that we rearrange our lounge each week for the Zoom classes, and with the decorations going up on 1st December it makes sense to wrap up early for Christmas this year as we don’t fancy moving the Christmas tree every Sunday! (Plus, the Christmas Fairy [aka Amy] also decreed that the tree and all the Christmas tat cannot be moved once in position. Which doesn’t leave us much room to move let alone dance!)

With regards to our return, in all honesty, we have no idea when it will be possible to return to classes as they were. Sadly we just don’t believe it will be possible to do so until there is more stability in government restrictions and a viable vaccination programme in place. Frustratingly, this could leave us all in dancing Limbo for a very long time.

Lots of people have asked us about why we’re not holding paid for, structured online courses like some other groups have chosen to do, and the answer is we both agree that it just wouldn’t be the right thing to do for us or ABC Salsa. It has never been about making money and just teaching people to dance; it was always about building a community that just happens to meet up to go dancing. Doing classes virtually loses a lot of what we have all built together over the last three years and becomes far too sanitised for our liking, and we know it would mean losing all of the extra bits that make it special. It means that you would lose more than our ability to teach and support you all face to face, you lose the banter, the weekly catch up round the sweet jar, those long post-class natters in the car park, trips out to social dances, meeting for lunch, dog walks and social drinks. Which is why we opted for doing free Sunday Salsacise and a Quiz Night to give us all a touchpoint to dance and just socialise.

We also can’t avoid the fact that this year has been pretty tough for us personally as we have gone from both bringing home a salary and having a small top up from salsa, to relying on one income that is constantly being affected by the ongoing government restrictions, which means we have had to consider where best to focus our time and efforts right now. But don’t worry it’s not all doom and gloom, we’re using this as a chance to explore other avenues and opportunities to give us more stability and better work-life balance for the future, which will include plans to incorporate dance along the way; but of course, this will only be possible when it is safe to do so.

So, for now, we’d like to say a huge thank you to you all and hope that you will join us for one more living room boogie and our final Sunday Salsacise session of 2020 at 7pm on 29th November via Zoom.

Wednesday Quiz Night will also still be going ahead this week as planned and if enough people are still interested, we’ll keep this going fortnightly as we head into December and the new year.

We will keep you all updated as and when we have more of a plan for 2021 and links for this weeks Zoom sessions will be shared shortly.

Thanks all it’s been a blast!
